A small guide to Faden.

Make yourself at home

Faden runs on macOS 15 or later. Download the app, move it to Applications, and open it. Press ⌥ Space or use the menu-bar item to bring it up. You can change the shortcut in Settings → Shortcuts.

Create a thread

A thread is one piece of work and its updates. Press ⌘ N, write where it stands, and choose My turn or Waiting. A title is optional. Press Return to save.

Keep the next move clear

My turn means the next move is yours. Waiting means you’re waiting on someone or something else. My turn appears above Waiting in the active list.

Open a thread and type a short update. In the status editor, Tab switches responsibility, Return saves, and Shift-Return adds a new line. After saving, the app keeps the detail open, ready for another update. Earlier statuses remain in its history.

Find your way back

Search titles, tags, saved references, and earlier statuses. Use the arrow keys to choose a result, then Return to open it. Press ⌘ K for Actions: a searchable list of commands and their shortcuts.

Bring the context along

Open Places with ⌘ P in a thread to keep useful links and references nearby. Add or edit your places, then save the status to apply those changes. Faden can fetch page titles and site icons for saved URLs.

Add hashtags to a title to assign tags. Open the tag picker with ⌘ T or by clicking the tags in the detail view. Tags let you find related work without changing whose turn it is.

Come back at the right time

Use Actions to set a reminder or snooze a thread. A reminder helps you remember to check in; snoozing temporarily takes the thread out of your active list. Snoozed work remains searchable.

Reminder notifications require permission from macOS. Manage reminder behavior in Settings → Reminders.

Finish, or pick it up again

Choose Resolve or press ⌘ ⇧ Return to finish a thread. Its history stays available. Search for it, or choose Show resolved threads in Actions. Reopen it with a fresh status when there’s more to do.

A few shortcuts worth knowing

Your work is stored locally on your Mac. Faden currently has no sync or team workspace. Get in touch if you need a hand.
